The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are set to wage battle, so what else is new? Should be an-out MLB affair, with the World Series Champs looking to hold off their fierce rivals.

The Boston Red Sox are World Series Champs, looking to repeat. No small feat, and they may start the MLB season slowly. Star pitcher Josh Beckett is hurt with his back giving him trouble. No Beckett, big problem for the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox begin their 2008 MLB season in Japan, where the travel may impede their energy in the early stages of the MLB season. Also, starting pitcher Kurt Shilling will be on the shelf during the start of the season, further depleting the Red Sox pitching rotation.

The New York Yankees, not used to being in second-place, faced that reality last year, and may very well be headed back in 2008. The Yankees starting pitching is a big question mark, as there are a lot of young arms and minds in the rotation that have not been through the fire versus the Boston Red Sox, or a pennant race.

The Yankees have a huge payroll, but it has only bought disappointment since last winning the World Series back in 2000. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will undoubtedly be first and second again in the American League East. I look for the Red Sox to repeat as division champs, while the New York Yankees will fight it out for the American League Wildcard.
