Chronic Headaches After A Concussion

Post on Aug 1st 2008

You may develop chronic headaches right after having a concussion. A concussion is a mild head injury. It happens when you become unconscious for a period of time. The doctors would have to observe you for a couple of hours in the hospital to ensure that you have not suffered any brain damage nor have any bleeding in the brain. If you look fine, you can expect to be discharged after 24 hours.

Initially, you may experience headaches after the concussion. Your headache symptoms may continue on for a couple of weeks, if not longer. This may cause you to feel anxious as to whether you are actually fine after the head injury. Mostly, there is nothing to fear as these side effects are temporary.

Here are some symptoms that you may have for the first two weeks after you sustain a concussion:

1. Directly after the concussion happens you may get a headache from the bruising that occurs. If you push yourself too hard or too soon you will suffer from further headaches that are caused by stress and fatigue. Headache medications will not help here. Therefore, get some rest and your headache will go away. If this does not help and you have a severe, continuous headache then you really should seek medical attention.

2. You may be dizzy because the balance organs in your ears have been upset. This is why any sudden movements of your head will cause you to become dizzy or you may feel as though you are floating. This will get better with time.

3. Your sight may be blurred and you may not like being in bright light. It may help to wear sunglasses, even indoors. This should get better with time but if not then you should see your doctor.

4. You may feel exhausted after doing only a little bit of activity. In this case you really need to rest or risk prolonging your recovery.

5. Your brain may temporarily downsize in order to allow itself to heal and thus you may suffer from short-term memory loss. You need to take time to rest here.

6. It is possible that you will become clumsy. This is due to problems with spatial awareness. If this is happening to you then you should not drive.

7. If you have suffered a concussion you may have a shorter temper and be more irritable. This is because your brain is recovering and thus has limited its resources to the essentials of survival. This is another thing that will improve with time.

Take a couple of days off. Report any abnormal symptoms or if your headaches become worse to your doctor rightaway!

Overconsumption of drugs for headache relief can result in rebound headaches and worsening migraines. Get more information on headache remedies here on this site at http://www.headacheremedysecrets.com
