Migraine Relief - Home Treatment for Migraine

Post on Sep 4th 2008

Millions of Americans suffer from migraine. It is a neurological condition where you will experience an intense headache on one or both sides of the head and often radiates from the eye. Migraine is a very disabling disease, you will experience pounding pain, vomiting and nausea. Some when having migraine attacks cannot get out of bed and cannot work at all or go on their daily routine. Fortunately you can apply home treatment for migraine during attacks to relieve the pains.

Home treatment for migraine

One home treatment for migraine is using a frozen towel. Wet and squeeze a towel and place in the freezer for 5 minutes. When the towel is frozen place it around your head and eyes. This will give relief to the pounding pain.

Another home treatment for migraine is massage. Lie down on a quiet darkened room and have someone massage your head and scalp to relieve the pain. But you can also do it yourself; you can massage your scalp and forehead rotating your fingers.

Aroma therapy. Not all people find relief in aroma therapy but there are migraine sufferers who find relief and relaxation using aroma therapy. Essential oils and certain scents help ease stress, tension and migraine. Common essential oils helpful for migraine are lavender and peppermint.

Ginger is also one home treatment for migraine due to its anti inflammatory properties. It helps in the circulation and relaxes blood vessels. Fresh ginger, lightly cooked or in the form of dried ginger powder helps relieve and prevent migraine attacks.

Drink plenty of water. Proper hydration is also one home treatment for migraine. Sometimes headache starts from dehydration that is why it is important to drink plenty of water. It is recommended that we drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.

Know your trigger. Migraine attacks have different triggers for different people. Some have migraine attacks after eating certain foods or if suffering from too much stress. As a home treatment for migraine, you must learn and observe your triggers to prevent migraine attacks. Make a diary of all your activities, what you have done, what you ate etc. before the onset of migraine attacks. This will help you determine your triggers and prevent future attacks.

Not all migraine attacks are treatable with home remedies. If the above mentioned home treatment for migraine didnt work you need advice from your doctor. But if you have tried everything and still found little or no relief you can try to modify your life style to prevent migraine attacks.
